The phrase “An Appeal to Heaven “ was created by John Locke from England in the mid 1600’s. Locke was one of the greatest philosophers of all time and a major influence on all of our founding fathers, so much so that most of all our countries original documentation is inspired from his work. The actual meaning of An Appeal to Heaven comes from Locke's work on the universal law of nature . It states as such…”when all justices and resources on earth are exhausted only an appeal to Heaven remains". These are natural rights we have as humans, and in the case of early America vs. The king of England "An Appeal to Heaven" was a commonly known philosophy and phrase chanted through the colonies by all people.
